Nutramigen 1 with LGG® Nutramigen 2 with LGG®
400g 400g
For infants aged 0-6 months For infants aged 6 months onward as part of a varied diet

Short term: symptom relief

  • Proven to have an average efficacy of 99%1†
  • Faster resolution of CMA symptoms vs Nutramigen without LGG2,3

Medium term: oral tolerance acquisition

  • The only eHF clinically proven to accelerate the return to milk4‡
  • 8 out of 10 infants get back to milk after 12 months of use5

Long term: sustained results and allergic manifestation reduction

  • The accelerated return to milk was shown to be sustained during a period of 3 years of dietary intervention6
  • ~50% reduction in the incidence of ≥1 other allergic manifestation compared to Nutramigen alone during a period of 3 years6

Nutramigen with LGG® is not recommended for premature and immunocompromised infants unless directed and supervised by a healthcare professional.

†Studied before the addition of LGG®. Calculated using data on allergic reactions after oral food challenge with an eHF from table 3 of Dupont et al. 2012, as judged by the Committee on Nutrition of the French Society of Paediatrics.

Versus an eHCF without LGG® or formulas based on rice hydrolysate, soy or amino acids. ‘Return to milk’ or ‘oral tolerance’ means the normal physiological process in which the daily diet plays a role.

What is LGG®?

  • LGG® is a probiotic isolated from the intestinal tract of healthy humans. LGG® has pili — hair-like appendages found on the probiotic that enable effective colonisation of the gut.7

Why add LGG® to Nutramigen?

  • Clinical evidence demonstrates that the combination of Nutramigen with LGG® accelerates the return to milk and reduces the incidence of other allergic manifestations‡ in infants with cow’s milk allergy (CMA)8,9

Well-established efficacy

  • The results of studies demonstrating the efficacy of LGG® cannot be extrapolated to other probiotics or other Lactobacillus strains10
  • Nutramigen with LGG® is available in many EU countries and beyond, and is used for the dietary management of CMA

Versus an eHCF without LGG® or formulas based on rice hydrolysate, soy or amino acids.
Compared to Nutramigen alone during a period of 3 years.

Instructions for preparation and use

Please note the preparation instructions of Nutramigen with LGG® (which has replaced Nutramigen LIPIL) have been updated since the preparation instructions for Nutramigen LIPIL in order to preserve the LGG®.

Nutramigen 1 & 2 with LGG® are foods for special medical purposes and should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Wash hands and clean preparation area thoroughly

  • Clean bottles, teats, caps and utensils in water (at least 10 minutes at a rolling boil)

Boil fresh water. (Do not use softened water)

  • As soon as possible, pour desired amount of boiled water into clean bottle and cap
  • Allow the water in the sealed bottle to cool down to room temperature

On a clean surface, add the required number of level scoops of powder (see feeding guide provided below)

  • Store dry scoop in the tin

Cap the bottle, roll and shake well until powder dissolves completely

  • Check temperature by dropping fluid on the inside of your wrist.

Once prepared, formula can spoil quickly. Feed immediately after preparation or cover and store in a refrigerator at 2-4°C for no longer than a total of 24 hours

  • Do not freeze prepared formula and do not use if unrefrigerated for more than a total of 2 hours
  • Use formula that has been in contact with baby’s mouth within 1 hour and do not refrigerate. Throw away any prepared formula left in bottle and clean utensils
  • Do not heat feeds in a microwave

As probiotics are inactivated by hot water, the reconstitution of a feed containing probiotics falls outside of current WHO recommendations. The BDA recommends that when healthcare facilities are able to make individual fresh feeds with foods for special medical purposes that contain probiotics for immediate consumption, these should be reconstituted by adhering to a strict safe preparation technique.11
